ITEM ~~6.
September 25, 1992
Elk River City Council
720 Dodge Avenue
Elk River, MN 55330
Dear City Council:
Elk River is a progressive, well-balanced city, ideal for growing
families. We have the opportunity to become a regional center for
meeting the needs of a large and diverse population that has chosen
this community to live in. One of those needs is an adequate public
library, which can improve the quality of life for all who use it.
We believe our current library building has become inadequate and time
has come to plan for the future. The City of Elk River has the
potential to provide an important and necessary resource for it's
citizens that will be in the best interest of a well developed
community.
After consideration of many options, the Elk River Public Library Board
of Trustees is recommending an addition to the existing building which
should serve the growing population well into the 21st century.
More than five years ago, the Board anticipated the need for an
expanded facility and began planning for the eventuality by putting
major capital into a future reserves fund, which has grown to-about
$100,000, enabling the funding of a library addition proposal.
The proposal includes a mission statement, space utilization,
collection development and staffing, site selection and project budget.
A missing key component is funding, pending discussion with the
Council.
We strongly urge the City Council's support of our proposal.
Sincerely,
Elk River Public Library Board of Trustees
Debra Anderson
Darryl Bronniche
Marsha O'Brien
Ken Ringstad
Vicki L.
