Primer/Surfacer Coats - A two (2) component urethane primer/surfacer shall be hand <br />applied to the chemically treated metal surfaces to provide a strong corrosion protective base <br />coat and to smooth out the surface. <br />4. Hand Sanding - The primer/surfacer coat shall be lightly sanded to an ultra smooth finish. <br />5. Sealer Palmer Coat - A two (2) component sealer primer coat shall be applied over the <br />sanded primer. <br />6. Topcoat Paint - Two (2) coats of an automotive grade, two (2) component acrylic urethane <br />paint, shall also be applied. <br />All removable items such as brackets, compartment doors, door hinges, trim, etc. shall be <br />removed and painted separately to insure paint behind all mounted items. Body assemblies that <br />cannot be finish painted after assembly shall be "finish" painted before assembly. <br />The cab and the body shall be painted red to match current Elk River Fire Department <br />apparatus. <br />Prior to reassembly and reinstallation of lights, handrails, door hardware and any miscellaneous <br />items an isolation tape, gasket or dielectric material shall be used to prevent damage to the <br />finish painted surfaces. A nylon washer shall be installed under each acorn nut or metal screw <br />that is fastened directly to an exterior painted surface. <br />PAINT - ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />The contractor shall meet or exceed his "current" State regulations concerning paint <br />operations. Pollution control shall include measures to protect the atmosphere, water and soil. <br />Controls shall include the following conditions: <br />- Topcoats and primers shall be chrome and lead free. <br />- Metal treatment chemicals shall be chrome free. The wastewater generated in the metal <br />treatment process shall be treated on-site to remove any other heavy metals. <br />- Paniculate emission collection from sanding operations shall have a 99.99% efficiency factor. <br />- Paniculate emissions from painting operations shall be collected by a dry filter or water wash <br />process. If the dry filter means is used, it shall have, an efficiency rating of 98.00%. Water <br />wash systems shall be 99.97% efficient. <br />- Water from water wash booths shall be reused. Solids shall be removed mechanically on a <br />continual basis to keep the water clean. <br />Page 69 <br /> <br /> <br />
