<br />3rd Quarter 2006 Report <br /> <br />- Archeological dig in the City was successful in terms of its findings. <br />- Staff has begun the investigation regarding utility boxes in the right of way. Bryan <br />Adams, General Manager of the Elk River Utilities will be submitting a report to the <br />staff and Council regarding location limitations and Rebecca Haug is initiating a meeting <br />with all the utility providers, to discuss if there are additional or alternatives in location <br />Issues. <br />- Staff is preparing a report to the City Council regarding downtown parking issues that <br />will be submitted in November. <br /> <br />. Gateway Business Planning <br />- The Economic Development Authority approved a work plan to develop a plan for this <br />area, which includes properties along Highway 10 and also extends to the N orthstar train <br />station. It is anticipated that the City will be able to start to market this in 2007 and that <br />full infrastructure will be completed by late spring/early summer of 2008. <br />- Staffis in the process of securing a bid proposal to complete a "Market Study" for this <br />area, which, in turn, will provide additional information regarding the strength of our <br />industrial markets. <br /> <br />. Northstar Station <br />- No new information to date. <br /> <br />. Commercial/Industrial Inquiries and Actions <br />- Staff has been working with a number of major local developers regarding industrial sites <br />and has had discussions regarding the sale of N orthstar properties and investigating a private <br />parcel for industrial use. <br />- Staff has met with the County and the proposed data center user to establish a schedule for <br />permit review and approvals. At this time, it is anticipated that they will close on the <br />property in late winter! early spring. <br /> <br />. Community Development Organizational News <br />- Hiring of Sheila Cartney for the Senior Planner position. With this hire, the Community <br />Development Department is at full staff. (Council approved the continuation of Adam <br />MityIng until the end of 2006, since the City has had over 1,200 roofing permits due to <br />the storm in September 2005). <br />- On August 15, 2006, the Community Development management staff conducted a <br />Strategic Planning Study. The results of this are shown in a "PowerPoint" presentation <br />form as an attachment. If the Council is desirous of the staff presenting this to the <br />Council, we could do this at a future work session. The Planning Commission will hear <br />this presentation in October. * <br /> <br />. 175th Redevelopment <br />- No additional inquiries to date. <br /> <br />Page 3 <br />
