<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />FIRE PREVENTION <br /> <br />ELK RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES <br /> <br />CODE COMPLIANCE <br />PROCEDURE <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />INSPECTIONS: The following guidelines shall be used for initial and follow-up <br />inspections. <br /> <br />(1) After making the initial inspection, an exit interview must be conducted and a copy <br />of the inspection report must be left at the facility. If this is not possible, a copy of <br />the report should be mailed immediately to the person(s) responsible for the <br />facility. If there are corrections that must be made immediately, due to unsafe <br />conditions, the building owner, manager, or their representative must be informed <br />before leaving the scene. NOTE: NOTIFYING WORKERS THAT <br />IMMEDIATE ACTION IS REQUIRED IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. <br /> <br />(2) If there are no violations then the inspection is completed. <br /> <br />(3) If corrections of violations are required then the person receiving the copy of the <br />inspection shall be instructed to call the Fire Department when the corrections <br />have been made within 30 days. <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />When the call is received, schedule are-inspection of the facility to check for <br />compliance If the violations have been corrected, then the inspection is completed. <br />If all violations are not corrected, a verbal two week extension is acceptable. A <br />follow-up inspection will be necessary. <br /> <br />(5) If after 30 days a phone call is not received, a 15 day final notice shall be sent by <br />regular mail service to the facility. <br /> <br />(6) If the facility calls regarding compliance, schedule a re-inspection and follow Step <br />4. <br /> <br />(7) If after 15 days there has been no call from the facility, a re-inspection will be <br />necessary to determine if there has been any compliance with orders. <br /> <br />(8) At this time, notifY the occupant that the matter will be turned over to the city <br />attorney for litigation unless an agreement can be reached concerning the required <br />corrections. <br /> <br />(9) If an agreement is reached, follow Step 4. <br />
