Page 3 e FIRE PREVENTION ELK RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES CODE COMPLIANCE PROCEDURE DATE: (10) If the matter needs to be referred to the city attorney, a cover letter should be sent to the city attorney describing the situation and asking for their assistance in getting the violations c011"ected. Each section of the code that is violated must be listed and copies ofthe.applicable code must be attached to the cover letter. ( 11) Send a copy of the cover letter by registered mail to the facility in question. Copies of the fire code sections need not be sent at this time, but should be available to the person(s) responsible. (12) Check with the city attorney regularly to keep them informed as to how the situation is progressing until a resolution is reached and the inspection is completed. e DOCUMENTATION: Throughout the entire inspection procedure, complete n.~~ords shall be kept. All re-inspections shall be noted on the back of the initial inspectionfonn. A route card shall be kept by each inspector to verify all inspections. A record shall be kept of any notification sent by mail on the back of the original inspection form. After the inspection is completed, all documentation shall be filed for future reference. DISTINCT HAZARD: If at any time a facility or a situation is determined by the Fire Department to create a distinct hazard, it must be corrected immediately or AS.AP. ( depending on what the hazard is). The person responsible at the facility should be made aware of the situation, the correction required, and the time frame. In the vent of a distinct hazard occurring and the owner/manager refuses to take the necessary steps to correct the problem, the Fire Marshal or inspector shall keep the Fire Chief aware of the situation. At this point, the Police Department might have to be contacted to issue a ticket or the city attorney can be contacted for assistance. All steps taken shall be documented. Chief Fire Marshal e
