General Policies <br />Smoking, Vaping, and Tobacco Policy <br />The city complies with the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act. All city buildings and vehicles, in <br />their entirety, shall be designated as smoke free, meaning that smoking in any form <br />(through the use of products such as pipes, cigars, and cigarettes), or "vaping with e- <br />cigarettes is prohibited while in a city facility or vehicle. <br />Smoking and vaping of any kind is prohibited while on duty except for employees 21 and <br />over only during their breaks and lunch, and only in areas designated for that purpose. <br />Employees who use chew/spit tobacco shall not do so in the presence of the public and <br />with respect to fellow employees and shall not cause damage to or soil city vehicles, <br />equipment, or facilities. <br />Employees violating this policy may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including <br />termination. <br />Appearance and Dress <br />Employee appearance is a direct reflection on the professionalism of city services. <br />Departments may establish dress codes for employees as part of departmental rules. <br />Personal appearance should be appropriate to the nature of the work and contacts with <br />other people and should present a positive image to the public. Clothing, jewelry, or other <br />items that could present a safety hazard are not acceptable in the workplace. To respect <br />the rights of employees with fragrance sensitivities, fragrances should be minimal or not <br />worn. <br />Clothing must always be clean, neat, and in good repair. Good hygiene is always expected. <br />The City Dress and Appearance Policy is available on Access RkRiver. Violation of this <br />Policy may result in discipline up to and including termination. <br />Electronic Communication Devices <br />The city provides telephonic equipment (land line and cellular), computer equipment and <br />software, and services used to communicate and supply email, voicemail, and internet <br />data access. The equipment and services are the property of the city and are intended to <br />be used for official city business. Employees who intentionally misuse Electronic <br />Communication Devices may be subject to discipline up to and including termination. <br />Please reference specific city policies regarding issue eligibility and use of electronic <br />communication devices such as 800 MHz radios, cell phones, smartphones, and <br />i Pads/tablets. <br />Telephone Use <br />It is critical that employees be courteous, tactful, professional, and efficient on the <br />telephone.
