Upon the death of an Employee, contributions can no longer be made to the HCSP. Any <br />payments owed but not yet paid into the HCSP will be paid out as regular income in <br />accordance with state and federal law. <br />Employee Development / Tuition Reimbursement <br />The city encourages and recommends lifelong learning and offers reimbursement to <br />regular, full-time employees for up to 75% of the tuition paid by the employee, excluding <br />scholarships and grants up to a maximum reimbursement of $3,000 per year (based on <br />the budget year the expense is applied) for accredited college or other instruction directly <br />related to the employee's position with the city. To be eligible for reimbursement the <br />following requirements must be met: <br />1. Prior to registration, a completed Tuition Reimbursement Request Form must be <br />signed and on file with Human Resources; and <br />2. The instruction must be to obtain a degree, certification, or license and apply <br />directly to the employee's position or be required to complete an associate, <br />bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree in the field in which the employee works; <br />and <br />3. The employee must successfully complete the instruction. If letter grades are <br />assigned, the minimum grade required for reimbursement is a C; and <br />4. The reimbursement must be submitted within 60 days of instruction completion. <br />Books, activity fees, technology fees, and other non -tuition charges do not qualify for <br />reimbursement. <br />All instruction must be taken on employee time and time spent on instruction is not <br />considered hours worked. If any portion of the employee's class/development activity is <br />conducted during regular work hours, the employee must take vacation or compensatory <br />leave, an unpaid leave of absence, if approved, or arrange for flexible scheduling, if <br />approved by the department director. <br />Courses taken to maintain licensure, affiliation, certification, or credentialing as well as <br />work -related seminars and training are paid for with City Council approved budgeted <br />training funds. <br />Employee Wellness <br />In an effort to promote wellness, the city maintains and encourages the use of a fitness <br />room with exercise equipment. The policy attached as Exhibit A must be read, signed, and <br />returned to Human Resources before using the fitness room. <br />Throughout the year, events are provided by the city's Whole Health Rewards Program <br />Committee to promote overall health and wellness.
