The portion of the Mississippi <br />River adjacent to the project area is designated as impaired. No other impaired waterbodies are <br />within one mile of the project area (Table 14). The TMDL study listed in Table 14 is in <br />reference to Minnesota’s statewide mercury TMDL study. Per the MPCA, “mercury emitted into <br />the atmosphere moves with wind and weather and may deposit anywhere, on land or water. <br />Mercury pollution from outside the state affects Minnesota, and mercury concentrations in fish <br />haven't significantly declined despite emissions reductions in North America” (56). The <br />development’s anticipated contribution to mercury is estimated to be similar to other residential <br />sites and consist of primarily consumer products (appliances, batteries, electronics, light bulbs, <br />thermometers, etc.). The TMDL Implementation Plan recommends increasing the participation <br />in existing household hazardous waste (HHW) collection programs. Sherburne County holds <br />collection events for HHW and there is a HHW facility located in Waite Park, Minnesota. <br /> <br />Table 14.
