Elk River Commercial District
Property Description and Significance
i
Address: 309 Jackson Street
PIN: Legal:
SHPO Inventory #: pending
Historic Name: Johnson Clothing Store
Current Name: Antiques Downtown
Builder / Contractor:
Original Owner/Tenant:
Architect/Source:
Date of Original Construction: ca. 1911
Date of Survey: March 2002
Prepared by: Carole Zellie / Landscape Research
Photo:
Property Number: 2
Description
The two-story brick building on this parcel is clad in metal, with no upper story
windows. The first level has modern display windows. The historic building behind the
screen may have been damaged in a fire in 1914. Historic photos show an earlier
building with arched upper -story windows, and another view (ca. 1917) with large
rectangular upper- story display windows.
Significance
This building is locally significant as an important survivor of an early twentieth century
commercial block. However, it is not known how much historic fabric survives behind
the metal screen.
