The first story <br />shows the original two bay division of the fagade. The square pilasters with simple <br />capitals flank bays filled with modern display windows. Above a deep cornice trimmed <br />with a rusticated brownstone band, the upper story has six arched windows surrounded <br />by a featureless cream brick fagade of relatively recent date. <br />Several historic photos show the building before its upper story modernization and <br />could be of great use in restoration. <br />Significance <br />This building is locally significant as the second location of the Bank of Elk River, the <br />first bank in Sherburne County. Established in 1885 with W.L. Babcock, W. H. Houlton <br />and Henry Castle as officers, the first bank was located on the north side of the railroad <br />
