We should embrace the riv er like Anok a & Stillwater do. I would lov e to s ee more <br />bout ique shopping, deli, speak eas y, gift s hops. Les s insurance, investment, offic e s pac es. <br />8/16/2024 7:44 AM <br />121 Elk Riv er Downtown has an underutiliz ed resource in the river/views and potential as a unique <br />dest ination that c ould serve as a "3rd place" (home, work, 3rd place t o go to for entertainment, <br />food/bev erages /recreat ion/socializing). I'd like to s ee the downtown area as a hub for trails for <br />walking and bik ing - s eparating v ehicle traffic to mak e this a safer and more pleasant and <br />appealing destination. See Seat tle's waterfront as an ex ample of a destination area with <br />entertainment, dining, shops connected by walking and biking paths . Connec ting the wonderful <br />trails (Woodland, along Highway 10, Eas t of 169) perhaps with bik e/walk ing paths going behind <br />the sc hools on School St reet and connec ting these trails to downt own as a hub. Budgeting for <br />excellent wayfinding signs would be essential to enc ourage us e. Inv it e bike/scooter rent al <br />companies to locate in the c ommunity. A public transit elec tric tram/bus route to include the <br />Norths tar Park and Ride, Walmart, Coburns, Cub, School Street, Aegir's Brewery, Downtown <br />and/or similar higher volume st ops. Eliminat ing vehicle t raff ic in t he c ore Downtown and <br />rerouting ac c es s/park ing for thos e liv ing/delivering and with disabilities. Reorienting businesses <br />to river v iews and adding 3/4 s eason patios... Mov e park ing away from downtown and provide <br />bik e and pedes trian ac c es s that does not require cros sing vehicle traffic (bridge/tunnel). <br />Enc ourage/support additional retail, recreat ion, dining in the downt own area - plac es lik e a late <br />night coffee shop, specialty foods , artist st udios , bic y cle repair, t rain store, game night <br />gathering space, s maller specialty s hops... The Downtown Plan s hould create a space t hat <br />both invites res idents to spend more time in the downtown and draws people from acros s the <br />state for a unique and memorable vis it . <br />8/15/2024 7:23 PM <br />122 Highway 10 makes downtown uneasy with the amount of traffic. A ris k of cros sing 10. I’m 50 <br />years old and I don’t want to cross it. Also put ting the train station outs ide of Elk Riv er was <br />dumbest thing. Should have put it where the lions and rental plac e is. I disagree with them...I lov e the <br />"old town" friendly feel. So many of thos e t hings are being lost. Love to see old photos of <br />towns with the holiday decor along main streets. The c urrent bus iness es and rest aurants are not <br />anyt hing t hat I am interested in with the ex c eption of the dental offic e.
