If they want to maint ain <br />it, I would suggest t ry ing to create it- like Ramsey is. We are not Anoka, we've never had a <br />bust ling DT like Anoka. Let's try less to preserve some of what's t here to mak e room for new <br />and attractive businesses/housing/features. You hav e a river- utiliz e it more. Spend some $ <br />and buy up s ome of the areas between 169/10. I'd rather see $ going to beautify and create a <br />nic e town. I'm sorry, but many of t he homes /bus ines s es in that area need to go if pos s ible. It's <br />time to c reate a city (not a "town"). You c an't stop progres s , if y ou try to hold onto the pas t too <br />muc h, your c ity becomes a relic of the pas t. And not in a good way. <br />8/21/2024 1:19 PM <br />104 The traffic and the t rains. Between the trains and traffic on Highway 10, oft en times it back s <br />the traffic up terribly. The intersec tion by Granit e Shores and the Bank of Elk River is so <br />dangerous. It ’s als o too clos e to Hwy 10. In a perfec t world the railroad tracks would move out <br />of downtown. <br />8/21/2024 1:15 PM <br />105 Elk Riv er has no unique bars or restaurants. McCoys and The Depot are dives and all the other <br />food options are chain fast food. The city needs to bring in more venues like Big Lak e or <br />Zimmerman hav e to k eep res idents in town, ex amples, Willie’s on the Water, the Buff, Trails, <br />Ds Smokehous e. Patio s eating or venues that hos t meat raffles, bingo etc . I pay huge tax es in <br />a c it y I liv e in and have to leav e the city for any form of ent ertainment. <br />8/21/2024 1:07 PM <br />106 Downtown is horrible t o get to for people going north from otaego (over the bridge). Something <br />needs to be done with that s toplight situation, especially on Thurs days. I t does not <br />repres ent a c lean, modern and attractiv e entrance into our downtown area. It is a bit of an eye <br />sore. The lights down the road by Lake Orono are v ery pretty. Something lik e that c ould look <br />very good there by the public park ing t oo! With some trees and planters with flowers like the <br />downtown area has. The c ity needs its res idents to stay, inv est and spend money in t he <br />city, and attract people pas s ing through to want to stop and s pend money at the loc al shops . <br />Ins tead as a communit y we are forc ed to leav e the area to all the surrounding cities for all our <br />basic needs as well as all the addit ional things we buy.
