Elk River Downtown Area Plan - Community Survey
59 / 68
84 The businesses aren’t c onnect ed to community and aren’t inviting. Insurance agencies , law
firms, etc . The bars are ins ular and unwelc oming if y ou hav en’t been going to them for years.
We need more busines ses lik e The Edge and Pompeii and Minne Made who want to connec t
with the public.
8/22/2024 10:48 PM
85 I lov e downt own. I think keeping it s afe but fun is key. I think a park would be nic e somewhere
as another activ ity for the k iddos . I think other ex periences like the es c ape room plac e could
als o be fun if it was walkable. Maybe an arc ade eatery or s omething.
8/22/2024 1:43 PM
86 Personally moving from Dallas TX to Elk Riv er there is s ev ere lac k of food options in the area.
Food always brings people together. Beer garden would be lovely.
8/22/2024 11:48 AM
87 Inc reas ing the ov erall look of downtown. Bring a modern touch. A fac ade refres h to store
fronts, modern artwork and better overall landscape.
8/22/2024 9:12 AM
88 I lov e the idea of what downtown Elk Riv er is . I think it needs a couple more bars /restaurants
and at least one more of thos e should be open past 11pm. Mc Coy's is fine, but we would like
more opt ions . Farmers mark et Thursday is one of my favorite day s! Maybe more block party
ty pe ev ents where you shut down the s treets c ould be fun t oo!
8/22/2024 8:05 AM
89 There just not much that downtown elk river offers . We find ourselves heading elsewhere t o
anoka, maple grov e, rogers or ots ego to the restaurants and shops .
8/21/2024 10:36 PM
90 Bring in bus ines s es . Es pec ially to more than just downtown. Lots of ey e soars in the c it y. I've
lived in town for 31 y ears and very sad.
8/21/2024 10:02 PM
91 Need t o utiliz e the riverfront area better 8/21/2024 9:41 PM
92 More pat ios f or enjoying the Riv er.8/21/2024 8:14 PM
93 The city needs to add a way for local growers to sell things in town and t hey also need t o s top
thinking that the down town area needs to be protected the town town area needs to grow with
out city involment
8/21/2024 6:04 PM
94 No section 8 housing More retail More community event s / entertainment/ engagement Lights
cros sing streets
8/21/2024 4:17 PM
95 Modern Res trooms at Rivers Edge Commons Park 8/21/2024 3:51 PM
96 I like a downtown center that c an be an entertainment and soc ial dis tric t! I lov e downtown
Anok a and want to s ee Elk River invest in s imilar ways. Like plac es to relax and s ocializ e and
see the river (either with more ac c essible shoreline or rooftop pat ios ), hidden unique s paces
like Avant Garden Book s tore's patio in Anoka- perfect s pot would be if a cafe bought the Elk
Riv er Chiroprac tic building and made a patio in the spac e behind it that connected to the dock
and amphitheat er area... also an inv es tment in art! Maybe new murals or s c ulptures. I'm also
eager to see the es c ape rooms reopen and am excited t hat the owners might invest in tabletop
gaming as well. It would also be c ool to s ee an arcade or play area t hat is more k id friendly
too... and more unique food options lik e thai or greek . Personally to me t here are buildings I
wis h weren't right in downtown... lik e the funeral home and the churc h in the old bank. That
space could be dev eloped better.
8/21/2024 3:35 PM
97 More stuff to do.8/21/2024 2:38 PM
98 The Parrish and Main street “s treet” needs to be t urned into s omething new. The afternoon
traf fic is terrible. Build a bridge or s omething over hwy 10 and the railroad trac k s to ease
conges tion.
8/21/2024 2:28 PM
99 Gett ing of f paris h is diffic ult and the trains back up traffic . Do not need more apartment
buildings
8/21/2024 2:11 PM
100 Downtown inters ections are not pedes trian friendly. Too muc h traffic goes t hrough Downtown
without Downtown as a des tination. Traff ic flow should be c hanged to enc ourage local traffic
only, s uch as mak ing Jackson one way, changing parish to not be able to go wes t onto main,
lower speed limits in old Downtown, etc .
8/21/2024 1:52 PM
101 Right now getting in and out of "downtown" is c umbersome. So muc h s o I don't s top & linger
anymore. It's a plac e to pass through, sadly. Parking is bad, all businesses have their bac ks
turned to the river. Look at Hudson WI or Stillwater MN as examples to striv e for. Thos e are
both riv er towns that are des tinations . Emulate them, they are success fully attracting &
keeping people coming there.
8/21/2024 1:48 PM
