Minnesota State Arts Board <br />FY 2024 Arts Experiences <br />Program Overview and Application Instructions page 15 <br /> <br />includes an individual who is an employee, contractor, or board member of the nonprofit <br />organization or public entity. <br />• A nonprofit organization or public entity cannot serve as fiscal sponsor for an individual, or a <br />group that includes an individual, who is a family member of the nonprofit organization’s or <br />public entity’s board or staff. <br />• A tax-exempt organization with an IRS designation other than 501(c)(3) may not use a fiscal <br />sponsor to apply. <br />• An organization incorporated as a domestic business corporation may not use a fiscal <br />sponsor to apply. <br />Applicants entering into fiscal sponsorship agreements are strongly encouraged to know their <br />rights and responsibilities and to utilize best practices when entering into such an agreement. <br />Visit the National Network of Fiscal Sponsors for information and resources. <br />Evidence of nonprofit status <br />• If the applicant is a 501(c)(3) organization, attach the applicant’s IRS 501(c)(3) <br />determination letter (PDF file). <br />• If the applicant is a public entity (such as a unit of state, local, or tribal government, or a <br />public school), no documentation is required. <br />• If the applicant is an arts affiliate of a 501(c)(3) organization, provide the name and address <br />of the host institution and attach its IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter (PDF file). <br />• If the applicant is an arts affiliate of a public entity, provide the name and address of the host <br />institution. <br />Financial Information Form <br />Individual applicants are not required to provide financial information. <br />Organization applicants that request a grant of $25,000 or less are not required to provide <br />financial information. <br />Organization applicants that request a grant of $25,001 to $35,000 are required to provide the <br />following financial information: <br />• A 501(c)(3) tax-exempt arts or nonarts organization must provide the required financial <br />documents for the overall organization. <br />• A unit of state, local, or tribal government, or a public school, must provide the required <br />financial documents for the overall entity. <br />• An arts affiliate of a nonprofit organization or public entity must provide financial statements <br />that show its arts income and expenses separate from the overall income and expenses of <br />the host institution’s. <br />• An arts group without 501(c)(3) status applying with a Minnesota tax-exempt or public fiscal <br />sponsor must provide financial statements that show its arts income and expenses, not the <br />income and expenses of its fiscal sponsor. <br />Use the chart below to determine the correct financial documents to submit, if any.
