Porath, Katie
To: Portner, Cal
Subject: RE: Public Comment - KEEP ERX as Your Day of the Dozer Hos
From: Scott Landes
Sent: Friday, May 13, 2022 2:41 PM
To: Portner, Cal <C ortn___r(_ .Ik_RiverM.Negov_>; Leeseberg, Chris <CILeese_ _er @ElkRiverMN.gov>;
hgood!nC )env!s!oncompany.com
Subject: Public Comment - KEEP ERX as Your Day of the Dozer Hos
I work at a company with a mission to save lives through education, and ERX does exactly that. I have spoken around the
world on excavation safety and damage prevention, so I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. You are unbelievably
lucky that you have ERX in your backyard to provide free education for anyone who wants it. When people call 811 or
request a locate online there is less than a 1% chance they will hit a cable or pipeline, yet 25-30% of people do not call
before they dig. Professional contractors, like the members of MUCA, are very rarely the problem. In fact, as you can see
by MUCAs involvement with ERX, they are part of the solution.
I, along with other people on our team, have volunteered at ERX. We have firsthand knowledge of how valuable ERX is in
educating both children and adults on excavation safety. I have seen many industry speakers who were electrocuted,
buried alive, or injured in a gas line explosion. Their stories are horrible and could have been avoided with the proper
knowledge. I do not know of any other event like this in the world. Please do not let this event die because of some
complaints about noise and traffic from a few people. I have no doubt that because of what people have learned at ERX
over the years injuries have been prevented, and lives have probably been saved.
On top of that damages cost the US economy $30 BILLION dollars in 2020
Mother and 7 year -old daughter die htt s: a news.com article 0d93c95deff68d67ddf97c3a3fdaf049
Two children and one 18 year old died hitps.//en.w!k! ed!a.orF ik!/tlymp!c pipeline explosion
............ ............................._
Cliff Meidl electrocution and amazing survival story
hit ontinues-Todns ire
Statistics on damage in the US
hops:/Ccommong_rqundq_Ili_q_nce:cq. ./ ..L.Ab.lica.ti _ns.-_IM di II IF T- pram
From: Stephanie Menning <-
Subject: Help KEEP ERX as Your Day of the Dozer Host!
Importance: High
Attention 811 Kids Activity Zone Participants,
ERX is under attack!
