COMMISSIOER MERRICK <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED 5-0. <br /> <br />6. Variance Request <br />(Fairgrounds)/P.H. <br /> <br />County <br /> <br />Agricultural <br /> <br />Society <br /> <br />Sherburne <br /> <br />for <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Nystrom indicated the Sherburne County Agricultural Society is <br />requesting a variance on the permitted amount of signage. He further <br />indicated they were requesting two 4 x 16 foot signs (128 square feet) <br />fastened together in a wedge shape. Mr. Nystrom noted that the sign would <br />be in the NW corner of the grounds and without lighting. <br /> <br />Chairman Tralle opened the public hearing. <br />opposition of the request. <br /> <br />No one appeared for or in <br /> <br />The Building and Zoning Administrator indicated that the fairgrounds is <br />kind of a unique circumstances and this amount of signage is necessary for <br />them to properly advertise the fairgrounds. <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding the signage by the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER FUCHS MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL TO APPROVE THE <br />SIGNAGE WHICH WOULD CONSIST OF TWO 4 BY 16 FOOT SIGNS FASTENED TOGETHER IN <br />A WEDGE SHAPE. ~OMMISSIONER WILSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION <br />PASSED 5-0. <br /> <br />At 9:30 P.M. the Planning Commission took a 10 minute recess. <br /> <br />Commissioner Merrick left the meeting at this time because of another <br />committment. <br /> <br />7. Conditional Use Permit for Agricultural Society (Fairgrounds) <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Nystrom was present representing the Agricultural Society and <br />indicated they were requesting a Conditional Use Permit to enlarge and <br />expand some of their buildings. Mr. Nystrom noted that the Agricultural <br />Society represented a group of volunteers to develop the County <br />Fairgrounds in Elk River. Mr. Nystrom indicated that they had hired Mr. <br />Zack Johnson to do a long range concept for the Fairgrounds that would <br />meet thier needs to the year 2000. Since they were grand fathered in and <br />in order not to have a new Conditional Use Permit each time they wanted <br />to add a building, they came up with this long range concept. <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding the off street parking and if it were in <br />keeping with the Elk River City Ordinance. Mr Nystrom indicated they had <br />sufficient parking for the needs of the Fairground. He noted that they <br />had 1300 spaces for parking with 200% not being used. <br />
