Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />Mutual Aid Agreements —All of the municipal fire departments in Sherburne County have mutual aid <br />agreements with each contiguous department that borders their respective fire district. Written mutual <br />aid agreements are on file with each city. <br />Summer Storms Winter Storm 'xtreme Temns Drought ')am Failure Wildfire <br />Burning Permits/Restrictions —The MN DNR regulates when burning permits are available and requires <br />permit holders to notify the county prior to burning. <br />Wildfire <br />Fire Prevention Week— Fire prevention week is held annually each October. Many fire departments <br />participate and provide an opportunity for local residents to learn fire safety with open houses or <br />present in the local schools to educate our youth. In addition, local media assist in sharing fire safety <br />information to the public during periods of high risk for wildfire. <br />Drought Wildfire <br />Drought/Wildfire PublicAwareness — In the event of drought conditions, Sherburne County Emergency <br />Services work together with the MN DNR and local fire departments to raise public awareness of the <br />dry conditions and increased danger of wildfire. <br />Summer Storms Winter Storm, �xtremeTemps Drought Dam Failure <br />MN Drought Response Plan — The State of Minnesota has a statewide drought response plan in place. <br />The plan was prepared by the Minnesota DNR. <br />Floods Erosion <br />Sherburne County Soil and Water Conservation District — The Sherburne County SWCD provides access <br />to natural resource management, conservation services, as well as technical, financial, and educational <br />assistance to landowners to address natural resource concerns. The SWCD manages the Cost -Share <br />Program, which provides funds to share the cost of systems or practices for erosion control, <br />sedimentation control, or water quality improvements designed to protect and improve soil and water <br />resources. Through the Cost -Share Program, land owners and/or occupiers can request financial and <br />technical assistance for the implementation of conservation practices. Projects that may be eligible for <br />cost -share funding include: Critical Area Planting, Diversions, Windbreak - Shelterbelt Establishment, <br />Grassed Waterway, Livestock Waste Management, Filter Strips, Sediment Basins, Streambank and <br />Shoreline Protection, Strip Cropping, Terraces, Well Decommissioning and Forestry Conservation <br />Practice. <br />Floods Dam Failure <br />Elk River Dam Emergency Action Plan — This plan provides the owner/operator of the Elk River Dam (aka <br />Orono Dam) with a clear plan of action when any dam emergency arises, with the intent of <br />safeguarding the lives and reducing damage to the property of the citizens of Sherburne County, <br />Wright County, and Hennepin County living along and downstream of the Elk River. This EAP provides <br />information about the dam and contact information for all parties involved in responding to, or affected <br />by an emergency at the dam.
