Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />The Emergency Management Department provides education during Severe Weather <br />Awareness Week, National Preparedness Month and Winter Hazard Awareness Week to <br />education residents on actions they can take to lessen the risk to disaster. <br />The Fire Department does open houses during fire prevention week and shares information <br />during National Night Out events. <br />The Fire Department and Police Department also provide educational programs to local schools <br />and businesses upon request as well. <br />ISD 742 Schools actively engage in preparedness through their Emergency Management <br />Advisory Committee as well as the development of plans, training programs and exercises at <br />each of their locations. <br />4. What funding or other resources are available to help accomplish mitigation in your <br />community? The City of St. Cloud has applied for a FEMA Pre -Disaster Mitigation (PDM) grant <br />to work on erosion/landslide issues along the Mississippi River. We have also applied for FEMA <br />Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) grants for other projects identified in the Stearns <br />County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Other grant funding, as well as the potential for capital <br />improvement planning may be possible to address some strategies for mitigation work within <br />the City of St. Cloud. <br />5. What program gaps or deficiencies do you feel exist that are a barrier to accomplishing <br />mitigation in your community? In the last 5 years, has your community experienced any severe weather or disaster events <br />that posed risk to life safety, caused property damage, or incurred costs for recovery? On <br />March 6, 2017 a tornado damaged many homes and properties in the area of 245th Ave and <br />3.68th St. in the city. The tornado also did significant damage to the Sand Dunes State Forest <br />Campground. <br />In 2015 a transformer at a power distribution facility failed resulting in a power outage effecting <br />the City and schools. <br />On May 5, 2o3.8, a fire destroyed the 4H Club bunkhouse. <br />Page I K - 1.8 <br />
