Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020
2. In the last 5 years, has your community taken any particular actions to reduce the
vulnerability of your community against future severe weather or disaster events? In the
past 5 years the city of Zimmerman has added on -site generators to two of our busier sanitary
lift stations. We also replaced our aging generator at our Wastewater Treatment plant with a
brand-new generator. In July, 2oi9 a new generator was also installed to replace the old one at
the Fire Hall. The backup power forthese facilities will help to ensure they remain functional
during a power outage.
In the past 5 years, has anything, especially related to zoning or development, changed
that you feel has increased your community's vulnerability to future severe weather or
disaster events? We have had a lot development in the past 5 years but feel we have
adequately planned for the growth.
4. What concerns do you have / what mitigation actions do you think would help your
community to reduce or eliminate risk against future severe weather or disaster events? We
plan on continuing to add generators on to our water and wastewater systems. We also plan on
putting up a security fence around our well/ water plant.
Currently, there are no evacuation procedures for campers at the Sand Dunes State
Campground or structure to take emergency shelter in in the event of a natural disaster. We
would like to work with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to make a plan and
erect a storm shelter or tornado safe room for campers at the Sand Dunes State Forest
campground.
Part B: Local Mitigation Capabilities Assessment
1. What plans, authorities, or policies are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your
community? The City has emergency plans and policies in place to ensure we are prepared.
The City works with our one mobile home park (Zimmerman Terrace Mobile Home Park) to
plan for the evacuation and sheltering of the residents of the park in times of severe weather
such as tornadoes, high winds, or floods.
We have a Comprehensive Plan that is designed to plan for the future physical growth of the
city and appropriate land uses.
2. What staff (organizational capacityl are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your
community? Our Fire Chief is our designated Emergency Manager. Our City Engineer and
Public Works Director are continually working together to help address road reconstruction,
and additional storm sewer collection points.
Our Public Works Director addresses road maintenance issues for flooding (culverts, repetitive
flooding).
Page I K - ig
