Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020
address road maintenance issues for flooding events. The Fire Chief will go outspeak to City
residents as requested about severe weather and fire safety.
What programs are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your community? The city
participates in the County's emergency alert system. We have a link on our website for the
residents to sign up for on the system. Our Fire dept. has open houses and operates for a full
week during fire prevention week to talk about fire safety and severe weather. We get out in
the community for "Nite to Unite". All of our schools hold their annual tornado drill, 5-fire drills,
and 5-lockdown drills. The public works departments will often sweep the streets do remove
the debris. The City also posts information about severe weather week on the City website and
Facebook page.
4. What funding or other resources are available to help accomplish mitigation in your
community? The City works with the counties that we reside in to address mitigation efforts
following past disaster events such as the July, 2oi6 tornado. The city is aware of some state
and federal grants available to us. We try to apply for these grants as needed. We also try to
budget for upcoming repairs and emergencies.
5. What program gaps or deficiencies do you feel exist that are a barrier to accomplishing
mitigation in your community? We need to update our Comprehensive plan to address the
future hazard events. Flooding and warning sirens. The city needs funding to improve roads,
culverts and river banks that experience flooding. We need to improve our communications
with the city residents by updating our website and emergency management planning. Not all
residents are signed up for the county's emergency alert system.
Part C: Contributors & Time
Julie Peterson, Mille Lacs County Emergency Management Director, i hour
Ron Lawrence, City of Princeton Fire Chief/EM Director, 2.5 hours
CITY OF ST.
