Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />4. What funding or other resources are available to help accomplish mitigation in your <br />community? The Fire Chief/Emergency Manager has been working with HSEM on the <br />possibility of applying for Mitigation Grants to assist with the building of storm shelters. We <br />have applied and received grant funding from MN DNR Firewise for the last several years <br />5. What program gaps or deficiencies do you feel exist that are a barrier to accomplishing <br />mitigation in your community? We need to complete a comprehensive mitigation plan for the <br />city to address any vulnerability to all hazards. <br />The city needs funding assistance to buy out residential properties and improve roads and <br />culverts that experience repetitive flooding. <br />The inclusion of an education and training program forthe community would go a long way to <br />helping build a safer, prepared and resilient community against all disaster. <br />Part C: Contributors & Time <br />Mark Dickinson, Fire Chief, 3 hours <br />Tim Sevcik, Street and Park Superintendent, i hour <br />Mike Tietz, ERMU assistant supervisor, i hour <br />Brandon Wisner, Storm water Coordinator, i hour <br />CITY OF PRINCETON (Partially located in Sherburne County) <br />Part A: Past Events & Vulnerability Assessment <br />1. In the last 5 years, has your community experienced any severe weather or disaster events <br />that posed risk to life safety, caused property damage, or incurred costs for recovery? In the <br />past 5 years the city of Princeton has experienced numerous flooding events following heavy <br />rains. When we have a high rain event we expect there will be localized flooding in the <br />southwest and southeast corner of the city that is within Sherburne County. This affects the <br />airport in the southwest corner and the golf course and waste water treatment plant on the <br />southeast corner. The Rum River rises every spring when the snow melt comes from the north <br />or there is a lot of rainfall in northern MN. Princeton has had tornado's travel through the north <br />and south side of city. <br />2. In the last 5 years, has your community taken any particular actions to reduce the <br />vulnerability of your community against future severe weather or disaster events? The bank <br />of the Rum River was raised by the waste water plant and vegetation was planted on the bank <br />to help with erosion.
