Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />The Zoning Department employs a Building Official and inspectors that enforce the Uniform <br />Building Code and who would assess structural damage. We would reach out to adjoining cities <br />and counties for assistance if necessary. <br />Other plans include the County COOP Plan, Debris Management Plan and Solid Waste <br />Management Ordinance. <br />2. What staff (organizational capacityl are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your <br />community? Sherburne County council includes a Public Safety Committee. <br />The county has its own GIS Specialist/I.T. Director. <br />The county has a Public Works Director/Supervisor that address road issues or flooding prone <br />roadways. <br />The county has an entire Public Works Department; including road maintenance, engineering, <br />GIS, surveying, and construction. <br />The county has a designated Emergency Service Manager. <br />The county has a Building Official and inspectors to assess structural damage and interpret <br />Building code. <br />The county has a Zoning Administrator and Assistant Zoning Administratorto interpret <br />ordinances and follow the COOP plan. <br />The county has a Solid Waste Administrator to oversee debris disposal and cleanup activities. <br />For each city jurisdiction, there is a designated Emergency Manager. <br />What programs are in place to help accomplish mitigation in your community? The county <br />offers an emergency alert system (CODE RED) and provides information on the county website <br />on howto sign up for alerts. <br />The county also participates in the National Weather Service's annual Severe Winter/Spring <br />Weather Awareness Week. We post severe weather awareness information out on our Sheriff's <br />Facebook page and Twitter page. <br />Local fire departments have open houses and hold fire safety presentations in schools. <br />Local schools practice tornado drills on an annual basis. <br />Every year we complete street sweeping, catch basin and outfall maintenance, and culvert <br />cleaning to help keep the drainage systems functioning. <br />Page I K - 5 <br />
