SECTION 02310-EXCAVATION&EMBANKMENT-SITE GRADING <br /> PART 1-- GENERAL <br /> 1.1 SUMMARY <br /> A. This section covers the furnishing of all labor, materials,tools,equipment and performances of all work and <br /> services necessary or incidental to the excavation and embankment of the site improvements as indicated <br /> on the drawings or as specified herein. <br /> 1.2 DEFINITIONS <br /> A. Compacted Volume(CV)—The volume of material actually placed as determined by computing the <br /> difference between original and final cross-sections by the average end area method. <br /> B. Excavated Volume(EV)—The volume of material actually excavated as determined by computing the <br /> difference between original and final cross-sections by the average end area method. <br /> C. Excess Material-Material that is not needed to complete the earthwork balance. <br /> D. Structural Improvements- For the purposes of this specification,structural improvements shall refer to any <br /> structure requiring suitable soil to support the anticipated loadings. <br /> E. Subcut- Excavation performed below the proposed subgrade elevation shown on the plans for the <br /> purposes of removing unsuitable material. <br /> F. Subgrade-The top surface of a roadbed upon which the pavement structure(including aggregate base <br /> and/or granular subbase) is to be constructed. This is also a general term denoting the soil foundation upon <br /> which a proposed improvement is to be placed. <br /> G. Suitable Material-Sand,silty sand or low plasticity clay soils with no organic content. The Engineer shall <br /> make the final determination as to what material will be considered suitable. <br /> H. Topsoil-Any soil,generally black in color,containing organic material. <br /> I. Unsuitable Material-Soil with organic content including topsoil,swamp deposits, peat, muck,or other <br /> material deemed by the Engineer to be unsuitable for fill or embankment construction. <br /> 1.3 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. Measurement and compensation for the following items shall be paid according to the referenced <br /> specification or as modified below: <br /> 1. Measurement and payment for Site Grading shall be based upon the measured LUMP SUM and paid at <br /> the unit price bid and shall be compensation for all costs associated with excavating and grading the <br /> site to subgrade elevation. <br /> 2. Measurement and payment for Common Borrow from on-site stockpile shall be based upon the CUBIC <br /> YARD—LOOSE VOLUME-CY(LV),truck load measure, included in the Proposal. <br /> 3. Measurement and payment for Topsoil Borrow shall be based upon the CUBIC YARD-LOOSE VOLUME <br /> QUANTITY-CY(LV),truck load measure, included in the Proposal. <br /> B. The furnishing and installing of specific items and/or the performance of work under certain circumstances <br /> shall not be individually paid in the absence of a specific bid item for the work. The costs shall be included <br /> in the unit price bid for the associated excavation items.Such items of work include but are not limited to: <br /> 1. Unless itemized in the Schedule of Prices,separating,salvaging,stockpiling,and spreading of topsoil, <br /> include in the price bid for common excavation. <br /> 2.
