Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance & Office Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
May 14, 2019 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• As a follow-up from last month, we are still testing a revision to the presentation of the monthly
bills to better segregate City versus ERMU services. This change also allows for a slight change to
the color scheme and the pictorials (moving from graphs to snapshot information.)The changes
hopefully will be able to be in place with the bills customers will receive in June.
• Shut-Offs have been very smooth so far this year, and we have had slightly less than the prior
year. One advantage of moving to cycled billing is that it gives customers a little additional time
to pay their bills once the April 15 date passes since we are not doing a massive shut-off on April
16, but rather shut-offs occur over the subsequent 4 weeks.
• We started accepting American Express credit cards this month due to a reasonable utility rate
negotiated by NISC, and it has been met with much appreciation by the customers.
• We had two CSRs and the Customer Service Manager, along with the Water Superintendent,
attend a state-offered program on Reduced Pressure Zone devices (RPZs) compliance on
Tuesday, May 7.This was an opportunity for staff to learn more about the Department of Health
concerns related to this.
• Last year at this time,we were getting ready for our first look at Enhanced Divisionalized
Accounting (EDA)through our software provider. Now with EDA almost in full swing, I will be
helping present at the Member Information Conference this September on how it is being
utilized. I will be co-presenting with Lisa Terry from Decatur Utilities in Alabama, a strong
influencer in helping EDA become a reality for municipal utilities.
• Next month I will not be at the commission meeting(I'll be at the University of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire for my daughter's college orientation). Please send any questions on the financials by
Monday 2:00 P.M. so I can have responses ready for everyone at the meeting.
394
