Remove all erection bracket scab marks below the HWL by air arc gouging, cutting
torch, or grinding. There are approximately 100 erection bracket scab marks. Repair
the tank surface by welding and grinding. This will require approximately 40-man
hours of welding and grinding.
Grind off all weld spatter below the HWL. This will require approximately 30-man
hours.
......................
3.2 Interior Wet 3.2.1
Coating The coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT) on the roof openings varies from 9.9 to 24.3 mils
with average of 14.2 mils DFT.
The coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT) on the roof structural members varies from 12.5
to 24.8 mils with average of 16.8 mils DFT.
The coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT) on the roof plates varies from 14 to 20 mils with
average of 15 mils DFT.
The coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT) on the shell plates varies from 12 to 23 mils with
average of 16.5 mils DFT.
The coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT) on the exterior of the drywell tubes varies from
14 to 25 mils.
The interior coating is in poor to fair condition. The coating is now 25 years old and
because of age is not considered repairable. The interior wet coating should be
replaced within the next 1 to 2 years. See photos 13 through 24.
After structural repairs are completed, the entire reservoir surfaces should be
abrasive blasted and the coating replaced with a zinc primer and a 2-coat epoxy
coating system.
3.3 Cathodic 3.3.1
Protection(C.P.) Currently the tower does have a submerged cathodic protection (C.P.) system inside
System the tower. Presently it appears not to be working. BSI recommends to remove the
complete C.P. system from the tower, remove the entrance coupling through the
drywell tube and seal weld interior/exterior a plate over the opening, and including
the control box at the base of the tower. See photo 25
3.4 Water 3.4.1
Stagnation and Currently the tower does not have a water stagnation system. BSI is suggesting
De-Icing System installing a SolarBee GS-9 unit, located on the bottom of the floor between the
(SolarBee GS-12) drywell tube and the cone plates. The SolarBee unit will also aid in minimizing the
formation of ice inside the tower which can damage the coating system. See Solar-
Bee GS-9 Brochure.
7
134
