Where an assembly is required to have both fire dampers and smoke dampers, <br />combination fire/smoke dampers or a fire damper and a smoke damper shall be required. <br />[IBC 717.5] <br /> <br />Please confirm that all fire, smoke and fire/smoke dampers are provided with a means of access <br />and shall be permanently identified on the exterior. <br /> <br /> Access and Identification. Fire and smoke dampers shall be provided with an approved <br />means of access, which is large enough to permit inspection and maintenance of the <br />damper and its operating parts. The access shall not affect the integrity of fire-resistance- <br />rated assemblies. The access openings shall not reduce the fire-resistance rating of the <br />assembly. Access points shall be permanently identified on the exterior by a label having <br />letters not less than ½ inch in height reading: FIRE/SMOKE DAMPER, SMOKE <br />DAMPER or FIRE DAMPER. Access doors in ducts shall be tight fitting and suitable <br />for the required duct construction. [IBC 717.4] <br /> <br />4. HVAC Duct Support. <br />Please confirm duct support requirements. <br /> <br /> Ducts shall be supported at intervals not to exceed 12 feet and shall be in accordance with <br />SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standards—Metal and Flexible. Flexible and other <br />factory-made ducts shall be supported in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. <br /> [IMC 603.10] <br /> <br />5. Domestic Range Hoods. <br />Confirm that the domestic range hoods meet the requirements of MR 1346.0505.1. Please <br />address. <br /> <br /> Domestic Systems. Where domestic range hoods and domestic appliances equipped with <br />downdraft exhaust are located within dwellings, the hoods and appliances shall discharge <br />to the outdoors through ducts constructed of galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, <br />or copper. The ducts shall have smooth inner walls and shall be air tight and equipped <br />with a backdraft damper. Domestic kitchen exhaust hoods ducted to the outdoors shall <br />have makeup air provided according to Minnesota Rules, part 1346.0501. Refer to part <br />1346.6010 for Table C-1, “Recommended Capacities for Domestic Kitchen Exhaust <br />Hoods.” [MR 1346.0505.1] <br /> <br />How is the makeup air quantity being determined and supplied? Please address. <br /> <br /> Makeup Air in New Dwelling Units. Makeup air quantity for new dwelling units shall <br />be determined by using IMC Table 501.4.1 and shall be supplied in accordance with IMC <br />Section 501.4.2. [MR 1346.0501.4.1]
