A~reement Between City and Ambulance/Lori Johnson . 8.2. . l Lori Johnson, City Finance Director, indicated that the City has been taking steps to define the relationship between the City and the Elk River Fire Department and Ambulance Service. She indicated that because the Ambulance Service is a total separate entity from the City, the City maintains no control over the Ambulance Service and, therefore, it is important that the segregation between the Fire Department and the Ambulance Service be defined. Ms. Johnson indicated that the City Attorney has drafted an agreement by and between the City of Elk River and the Elk River Fire and Ambulance service for the use of fire personnel and facilities. This agreement was reviewed by the City Council. Lori indicated that the agreement covers insurance, liability, and workers compensation, the maintenance of property inventory records, authorization for the City to audit the ambulance service, use of city facilities and other items. Lori Johnson indicated that the agreement presented before the Council separates the Ambulance Service from the Fire Department. It was the consensus of the City Council to forward the agreement to the Ambulance Service for their review and then present it to the Council for approval before the Council on the December 18, City Council meeting. Fire Department Expansion Update/Fire Chief Russ Anderson, Fire Chief, indicated that he will be holding a meeting with the mechanical engineers and contractors regarding the completion of the Fire Department expansion. He indicated that the expansion is basically complete with a few minor items to be accomplished. Russ Anderson indicated that after his meeting with the engineers and contractors, he would update the Council at a following Council meeting. 8.3. Other Business Russ Anderson, Fire Chief, indicated that he is considering holding a small Open House in February. Russ Anderson indicated that the Fire Department voted to spend $7,500 on weight lifting equipment. Mayor Tralle indicated that the City Council had authorized the purchase of $I,OOO worth of weight lifting equipment for the Police Department. He further indicated that he does not wish to see a duplication of the money or equipment and requested that the Police and Fire Department work together on a weight lifting room. Russ Anderson indicated that it was the wish of the Fire Department to not give out keys to the Police or City employees for use of the weight room at the Fire Department, as the Fire Department owns all of the equipment in the building. Discussion pursued between the Council and the City staff regarding the use of public buildings. ~
