<br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Elk River City Council Minutes <br />June 5, 1989 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />Softball Light Update-Councilmember Schuldt <br /> <br />Councilmember Schuldt indicated that he had met with Dave Anderson of the <br />Softball Association, the Chief of Police and Craig Gallup of the <br />lighting company which installed the softball lights at Orono Park. He <br />stated that they toured Highway 10, Orono Road and other surrounding <br />areas that were affected by the softball lights. He stated the <br />recommendation from Craig Gallup was that about 26 shields would need to <br />be installed on the lights in order to eliminate the glare on the roads <br />from the lights. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE EXPENDITURE OF $4,000 FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OF SHIELDS FOR THE SOFTBALL LIGHTS AT ORONO PARK, DUE TO THE <br />POTENTIAL HAZARD IN LIABILITY TO THE CITY AND FURTHER THAT MONEY FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF THE SHIELDS COME FROM THE SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION. <br />OOUNCILMlMBER DOBEL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. 5-0. <br /> <br />9. Check Register <br /> <br />OOUNCII.M!MBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO APPROVE THE CHECK REGI STER. <br />COUNCILMEMBER SCHULDT SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />11. City Administrator Update <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />11.1 The City Adminstrator informed the Council that he would be meeting <br />with a representative from UPA to discuss the possible purchase of <br />old City Hall by UPA. <br /> <br />11.2 <br /> <br />The City <br />letter to <br /> <br />Administrator informed the Council that he had mailed a <br />Larry Morrell regarding the purchase of his property. <br /> <br />11.3 The City Administrator informed the Council that Rob VanValkenburg <br />is considering submitting a loan to the SBA for a hotel proposal <br />only, thereby eliminating the conference center. He stated that at <br />a consultant-staff meeting, it was the general consensus of the <br />staff that if Mr. VanValkenburg wanted to pursue the hotel without <br />of the conference center that the staff had no problems with this <br />proposal and further that the staff would have no problem with a <br />private septic system with the stipulation that the City will <br />inspect the septic system. He further indicated to the Council <br />that Mr. VanValkenburg would still be looking for some type of City <br />assistance for the redevelopment of the site. <br /> <br />11.4 The City Administrator informed the Council that the Street <br />Superintendent would be attending a Hennepin County auction to look <br />at the possible purchase of a dozer. He further indicated that the <br />money had been authorized out of equipment reserves last year and <br />that the money was not spent at that time. <br /> <br />e <br />
