Consider a Conditional Use Permit to Operate an Upholstery Business as <br />a Home occupation by Todd Altenweg/Public Hearing <br /> <br />Gary Schmitz reviewed the request by Mr. Todd Altenweg for a <br />conditional use permit to operate an upholstery business out of his <br />home at 11925 191st Avenue NW, Elk River. The applicant will be the <br />only employee of the business and will work approximately 40 hours per <br />week during normal business hours. Mr. Altenweg will pick up and <br />deliver the items he reupholsters. He will be doing all work within <br />the confines of his insulated garage and there will be no outside <br />storage. The tools used in the business will consist of an industrial <br />sewing machine, large cutting table, small air compressor, air staple <br />gun, hammers, etc. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mr. Schmitz stated that the Planning commission added a condition to <br />their recommendation that would subject the conditional use permit to <br />immediate review by the Planning Commission and City Council if valid <br />complaints were received concerning noise. <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman opened the public hearing. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission representative stated that there was only <br />comment made by a citizen at the Planning commission meeting and <br />was a concern that Mr. Altenweg had moved his equipment for <br />business into the home before he had actually moved in himself. <br />stated that the home use is the primary use of the home. <br /> <br />one <br />that <br />his <br />He <br /> <br />Councilmember Scheel questioned how Mr. Altenweg would be getting rid <br />of scrap from the business. Mr. Altenweg stated that his regular <br />garbage service would be adequate to dispose of the limited amount of <br />waste he would generate. <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />Councilmember Holmgren asked Mr. Altenweg how he would be heating the <br />garage. Mr. Altenweg stated that he currently is letting the heat from <br />the house run into the garage.
