<br />City Council Minutes <br />February 28, 1994 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The City Council recessed at 6:48 and reconvened at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />6. Open Mike <br /> <br />Gene Schuldt complimented the Street Department on its job of snow removal <br />and for the removal of snow from the sidewalks. He further indicated that <br />snowmobilers have become a problem on the sidewalks. <br /> <br />Gene Schuldt indicated that he agreed with the Council in its decision regarding <br />the zone change request to accommodate Menards. <br /> <br />Gene Schuldt suggested an ordinance amendment to the Gambling Ordinance <br />which would allow only local nonprofit organizations to operate charitable <br />gambling in Elk River. <br /> <br />Gene Schuldt spoke about the proposed hockey arena. He indicated his <br />concern that this arena will be used mainly by the school and encouraged the <br />council to consider not having the city become involved in the operation and <br />maintenance. He indicated that it would be more appropriate to have the <br />school operate and maintain the hockey arena. <br /> <br />7.1. <br /> <br />Chamber of Commerce update on buildina plans at UP A Drive and Hiahway 10 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Duane Kropuenske updated the Council on the progress of the Chamber of <br />Commerce building project. He indicated that the office building will be <br />available to be moved by April 15. He stated that three committees have been <br />formed to work on this project consisting of a construction committee, finance <br />committee and a city liaison committee. <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding the park and ride facility on the site. The City <br />Administrator indicated that staff is working with MnDOT regarding the park and <br />ride. The City Administrator also discussed the possible ramifications of the City's <br />involvement with accepting the building from Dennis Chuba as a donation and <br />then transferring to the Chamber. It was noted that the Legion may also request <br />use of some of this property for a Veteran's memorial. <br /> <br />Mr. Kropuenske thanked the City of Elk River for the time and cooperation that <br />has been given to the project. <br /> <br />7.4. Consider reauest by Vern Ohman for an administrative subdivision to divide a ten- <br />acre parcel into two five-acre parcels/Public Hearinq <br /> <br />The City Administrator indicated that Vern Ohman is requesting an administrative <br />subdivision to divide a ten-acre parcel into two five-acre parcels. <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman opened the public hearing. There being no one for or against <br />the matter, Mayor Duitsman closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />e <br />
