<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />providers and developers, to ensure the needs of each group are identified and addressed. <br />Cluster development around transit stations may be one alternative to enhance transit access/ <br />usage and offer convenient housing, shopping and services to residents. <br /> <br />Pedestrian/Bicycle Strategies <br /> <br />There are a number of existing and proposed bicycle trails within the Northstar Corridor that are <br />appropriate for recreational activity. <br /> <br />Existing and planned bike paths include: <br /> <br />. In Hennepin County, the Mississippi River Regional Trail is located on the east side of the <br />Mississippi River and extends north to the Anoka County line. <br /> <br />. In Anoka County the existing trail system is the Anoka County Mississippi River Regional <br />Trail, which is located between the Mississippi River and TH 47 adjacent to CH 1 and <br />extends from the south County line in Columbia Heights to approximately 85th A venue. <br /> <br />. In Sherburne County there are selected county state aid highways with paved shoulders <br />where bicycling may be permitted. Within the Corridor these are located in Big Lake, <br />Becker, and along CSAH 11 between Big Lake and Becker townships. <br /> <br />. Within and around the City of St. Cloud there are a number of existing and proposed biking <br />opportunities that include paths, lanes and wide shoulders. In 1997, the City of St. Cloud had <br />a total of 45.5 miles of bicycle facilities. A goal of the St. Cloud Area Transportation Plan <br />Update is to increase the facility mileage by 21 %. <br /> <br />Future plans include: <br /> <br />. MnlDOT's 1999-2001 STIP does not include any Bike/Walk trails within the Northstar <br />Corridor. <br /> <br />· The Metropolitan Council's Transportation Policy Plan, December, 1996, does not include <br />any Bike/Walk trails within the Northstar Corridor for the 1997-2000 TIP. <br /> <br />· The Anoka County Mississippi River Regional Trail system is planned to be extended along <br />the river from approximately 99th Avenue to Highway 169. An extension to this trail system <br />is being proposed to continue from Highway 169 to the west County line in Ramsey. <br /> <br />. Sherburne County's Transportation Plan indicates that the County does not maintain any <br />separated trails or designated bikeways.
