· The St. Cloud Area 2020 Bicycle/Pedestrian plan shows bicycle opportunities within the
Northstar Corridor on either side of, and adjacent to the Mississippi River from south of the
City at approximately CR 115 to north of 12th Street North.

.

Recommendations under this strategy as part of the TSM Alternative include a multi-modal
bike/transit approach:

· Constructing and/or distinguishing an aggregate of approximately 10-15 additional miles of
bicycle lanes that will focus on access to the proposed transit stations. This would include
two to three miles of bicycle lanes directed at each of the stations in the Cities of Rice, Clear
Lake, Becker, Big Lake and Elk River.
· Bicycle storage facilities at each of the proposed transit stations.
· Designating one luggage bay on each motor coach for the storage of bicycles.

This approach would allow individuals to access transit at the home station, ride the express bus
to the work station, and bike to the place of work to complete their trip. This would be reversed
for the return trip.

The maps on the following pages illustrate the TSM Alternative for the St. Cloud metropolitan
area, Sherburne County, Anoka County and the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The maps depict
the proposed commuter express bus service and new improvements/facilities along the corridor
to supplement that service. The TSM Alternative is shown utilizing enhanced colors, while the
existing services (No-Build Alternative) is shaded in the background.

.

.

Phase II Northstar Corridor Major Investment Study
Draft - TSM Alternative

18
June 24, 1999
