Park-and-Ride Facilities

.

Currently there are two formal park-and-ride facilities located in Stearns County available to
commuters. One is located at 1-94 and CSAH 2 in St. Joseph; the other is located at 1-94 and
CSAH 10 in Albany. MnlDOT was responsible in part for the creation of these lots and is
currently working with the City of St. Cloud, the MTC and the Counties of Benton, Steams and
Sherburne to create a formal network of park-and-ride facilities in the region. Commuters in the
St. Cloud area are also taking advantage of an informal park-and-ride facility located at 1-94 and
CSAH 75 in St. Cloud. Currently no transit connections are available at these locations.

Sherburne County

Transit Services

Sherburne County is primarily rural and agricultural in nature therefore transit services are
limited. The RiverRider Heartland Express provides door-to-door service to the general public
serving Sherburne County and select communities in Wright County. The service operates on a
dial-a-ride basis in addition to flexible semi-fixed service. Sherburne County also provides a
volunteer transportation program to eligible residents providing trips to medical appointments
within the County.

Park and Ride Facilities

.

Currently there are few park-and-ride facilities available to commuters in Sherburne County.
Existing facilities are located at the MnlDOT Traveler Information Center south of St. Cloud
along TH 10, a municipal parking lot along TH 10 in the city of Becker and the MnlDOT park-
and-ride lot located at TH 169 in Elk River.

Transit connections at these facilities are not available at this time, however Sherburne County is
working with MnlDOT, Counties, Cities and agencies located along the THIO and 1-94 corridors
to create a formal network of park-and-ride facilities in the region. It is anticipated that several
facilities will be located in Sherburne County.

Wright County

Transit Services

Wright County is primarily rural although development pressures resulting from the close
proximity to the Twin Cities have influenced growth. Population, household and employment
growth is highest in the northern and eastern parts of the County. Interstate 94, a major
throughway to the Twin Cities, runs along the far north portion of the County, east into Hennepin
County.

.

Phase II Northstar Corridor Major Investment Study
Draft - No-Build Alternative

6

June 10, 1999
