“I am pleased to write a letter about our relationship with Spohn Ranch. The City worked with Spohn Ranch
over a two year period to develop a concept, construct, and complete a skatepark for the City of Junction City.
Spohn Ranch went to great lengths to incorporate our design requests and work with our budget to create a
skatepark design that the community could support. Jason took the time to break the project into phases to
make our fundraising campaign more achievable and provided referrals on available grants. Spohn Ranch was
patient with us as we worked through a fundraising campaign and was willing to re-work the design as needed
and when needed. Spohn Ranch’s greatest strengths were both their creativity and their flexibility. Jason
and his team really gave us the impression that we could accomplish the project and that they would be there
with us throughout the project to completion, no matter how long it took.
We all celebrated the opening of our Skatepark in October 2012 and we have received excellent feedback from
participants about the flow and the features of the park. I recommend Spohn Ranch for skatepark design and
construction.”
- Melissa Bowers, Community Services Department Director

“In 2010, the North Wasco Park District conducted a nationwide search and competitive bid to hire a skatepark
design/build firm for our first concrete skatepark. We chose Spohn Ranch, based on their successful track
record and innovative bid design.
In our experience, Aaron Spohn and Spohn Ranch have a design/build approach that I believe people will find
very rare and refreshing these days. As an example, even before a formal arrangement was defined, Aaron
made a site visit to give us his professional opinion about overall park planning and potential site issues. He
and the Spohn Ranch staff were extremely accommodating and friendly throughout the entire process. Not
only are they extremely knowledgeable about both the architectural and contractual aspects of skatepark
development, they seem to have a great natural sense for working with local skaters.
When the public involvement process revealed a strong desire to change the bid design, their design team
switched gears and did a totally original design that satisfied two different skating styles. Mark Bradford and
the construction crew were able to leverage our local contractor’s work and did a great job with the poured
concrete. We wanted to add a unique feature to our design by utilizing a columnar basalt boulder for the Bent
Penny and it really turned out great. Since the park has opened, it has enjoyed heavy use including
sponsorships from Nike and Dakine to provide regional skate competitions.
I would highly recommend that any agencies considering a skatepark work with Spohn Ranch to design and
build their facility.”

- Scott Green, Executive Director
JUNCTION CITY SKATEPARK – Junction City, Oregon
THOMPSON PARK SKATEPARK – The Dalles, Oregon
