City Council Minutes Page 3 <br />March 2, 2015 <br />6.2 Recognition of Lions Club for Fire Department Donation <br />Chief Cunningham. stated the Lions Club contributed $10,500 last year to the Elk <br />River Fire Department for the purchase of two self- contained breathing apparatus <br />units. <br />Members of the Lions Club were in attendance to present Chief Cunningham with a <br />large symbolic check. <br />Mayor Dietz thanked the Lions Club on behalf of the Fire Department and the rest <br />of the Council. <br />6.3 Staff Recognition for Pet Rescue <br />Mr. Portner provided background information on staff s rescue of a cat. <br />Mayor Dietz recognized and thanked CSO Prehatney, Chief Wastewater Operator <br />Matt Stevens, and Wastewater Operators Dale Eckert and Kevin Beadles for their <br />part in the rescue. <br />6.4 Police Department Traffic Safety Award <br />Chief Nierenhausen presented the staff report. <br />Bob Tirevold, Minnesota Department of Public Safety TZD Law Enforcement <br />Liaison indicated the Elk River Police Department has been awarded the <br />"Outstanding Agency" award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for <br />promoting traffic safety and enforcement. <br />As part of the award, Mr. Tirevold presented Sergeant Windels with a Stalker Radar <br />DSR2X. <br />i. Public Hearings <br />There were no public hearings. <br />8.1 Quiet Zone Update <br />Mr. Femrite provided an update on quiet zones. He indicated the Jackson Avenue <br />and Main Street crossings have been identified by the state to receive safety <br />improvements which would cut the cost to the city of establishing quiet zones. He <br />explained the Minnesota Department of Transportation is working with Burlington <br />Northern Santa Fe to hopefully install four- quadrant systems at the two crossings, <br />which is the same improvement the city was looking at making at the Jackson <br />Avenue crossing for the quiet zone. <br />R* E R E I R 1 <br />NATURE <br />
