which was the sign height of at least 30' with a width of 17'-3" (this is Country's
standard width) and to be able to have some flexibility on an exact location of this sign
so it will be seen from Highway 169. This issue is crucial to us and to the success
of this hotel. Especially, when considering the new proposed walk bridge, which we
were told at the planning commission meeting, would be a 10' high fenced or enclosed
walk bridge on the northwest comer of our lot. This bridge will definitely impair the
visibility of our building and our sign if the freestanding sign remains in its present
proposed location and at the planning commissions recommended 20' height
restriction.

4.) Trash enclosure location. - Our proposed trash area will be completely fenced and
screened with significant landscaping trees. We have looked at other options but feel
this is still the best location because of the need to be located in an area which is easily
accessible for the re,se tracks. The nine (9) other City requirements are acceptable to us as proposed.

I would like to point out that we held a neighborhood meeting at the Perkins Restaurant in
Elk River on Wednesday, July 22na to discuss with the neighbors our proposal. We sent a
letter to all neighbors within 350' of our site by using the exact same mailing labels the
City did for the public hearing. There were 7 to 8 neighbors present at this neighborhood
meeting and our proposal, which was the same as what was presented to the Planning
Commission's July 28th public hearing, was thoroughly discussed with the neighbors.
These neighbors found our proposal to be very acceptable.

I am asking that an approval on August 17th by the City Council be made to include our
requested changes above, which is necessary for us to move forward on this project. If
you have any questions or comments before the Monday, August 17th meeting please feel
free to contact me at (320) 202-3100.

S~)°~/ ies, Inc.
l_po ~Sand
resident / CEO

CC.

Paul Steinman - Director of Economic Development
Patrick Klaers - City Administrator
