AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION ~ USA SOFTBALL
MINNESOTA SPORTS FEDERATION
Barrington Center · 592 Dodge Avenue · Elk River, Minnesota 55330-2886
(612) 241-1789 · Fax (612) 241-1736

April 24, 1998

Dear MSF League Director:

It was my pleasure to visit with many of you over the past few weeks at the MSF Spring District
Meetings. I always look forward to those meetings. They give all of us league directors an
opportunity to meet each other, or renew acquaintances, and they allow all of us to interface
with the MSF staff.

If you'll recall, we spoke at each of the meetings about the capital campaign that the Board of
Directors has undertaken this past year to build the MSF Sports Facility and Wellness Center.
Our request was that each league consider making a per team or per player donation to the
campaign, beginning this year if possible, and continuing over the next several years. Since
those meetings we have had some great response, and I wanted to write and tell you what
some of our member leagues are doing for us.
**The Suburban J.O. League (Dan Wieczorek, League Director) has agreed to
donate $1.00 per player, beginning in 1998, for three years. This league registers
approximately 3,800 girls each year!
**$2230 in pledges and gifts for 1998 from the additional leagues: STMA, Sauk Center,
Cold Spring, Lake Superior Fastpitch, Sauk Rapids, Park-Grove, Northern Lights,
Dayton/Rogers, Hollywood Sports, High Island and Mankato Softball Associations.
**The Metro Women's Fastpitch League (Klm Niederluecke, President)is donating $10
per team, beginning in 1997, for five years.
**The MSF State Volleyball Officials have donated over $1,800 this year.
**The MSF Game Officials and MSF Broomball and Basketball Officials are each
donating a game fee, which will total over $1,500 this year.
**Softball Umpires are expected to follow their counterparts lead.
Also, take a look at the Spring 1998 Amateur Sports Review. A list contributors (individuals,
corporations, associations ,etc.) is included. If you haven't already done so, please take a
moment to contemplate what your league or association can do to help this great cause. As
we discussed at the district meetings, $10 per team or $1 per player is really a minuscule
amount (compared to the cost of one soda at the concessions stand) for the long term benefits
that participation in MSF athletic programs provide each of us. If it's too late for 1998, please
consider your gift(s) for 1999 and beyond. I'd like to include your league in my next update
letter!

Thanks and have a great softball season!

Yours Very Truly,
~en
President

P.S.

Enclosed is a copy of the previous letter sent regarding the campaign.

ASA ~ USA SOFTBALL
The Minnesota Sports Federation serves as the local association of the Amateur Softball Association.
