INITIATIVE
FOUNDATION
BUILDING COMMUNITY COALITIONS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN: Beginning in the fall of 2003,
the Initiative Foundation will work closely with at least six pilot communities to engage them in a grassroots
visioning and planning process around eazly childhood caze and education. Communities participating in
this process will be those who have successfully completed the Healthy Community Partnership (HCP)
program, and identified the caze and education of children, youth and families as a key goal area in their
community's long-range plan.
PURPOSE: We believe that communities need to come along side parents and families in order to give
children the very highest quality of care and education during their earliest years in order to help them
succeed later in life. We also believe that communities that choose to dedicate significant time, energy
and resources to the care of their youngest children, will be communities that thrive!
Our Eazly Childhood Initiative is designed to support the people of Central Minnesota to bring early care
and education to the forefront of effective and sustainable community planning and action.
OUR PRINCIPLES: Our campaign for the youngest children is based on the fundamental beliefs that:
• Every child should have the opportunity to Team, to be safe and to be loved.
In order to be successful, families need and deserve the support of the broader community.
• More children can and should enter school ready to learn and succeed.
• An investment of time and resources in children at a very early age creates valuable economic impacts
for communities.
• Quality, accessible and affordable early childhood opportunities should be a top priority of local leaders
and decision makers at all local, regional and statewide levels.
COALITION BUILDING PROCESS: The early childhood caze and education coalition process is a
partnership between the Initiative Foundation and a broad base of members from the coalition community.
Each community coalition is expected to:
• Develop a core leadership team.
• Hire or assign apart-time team coordinator.
• Identify local resources to support the coalition's efforts.
• Participate in three to five Initiative Foundation-led leadership training sessions.
• Conduct a local visioning session.
• Develop a local early childhood integrated plan.
• Encourage and support the implementation of planned goals.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of local efforts.
• Communicate coalition progress with the Initiative Foundation team. :,.~,.> ~;,<.., ,~~,~:~:~ ,~

,,,~».~~ ~,, N~, ~~~.,.
I'uu,u e::430_I:;SL'.}J?55
IA~::5'_'U.682.9?6Yi
~9V CVV. ui I uidl-~-Nfn LI(Fnr: R.
I HOA II-']. .AN II IipIPLVI I(It.
