We have made an effort to support our business neighbors by using local restaurants
(no outside vendors) and by bringing back the button sale which allows businesses to elect to participate in a
discount promotion. All performers on stage will be from this region as will the artists. The community tent
offerings have also been extended beyond the normal children's activities. This year, regional arts and cultural
organizations have been encouraged to participate. Following is a brief summary of this year's activities:
ARTISTS' SALES
There will be over 40 artists' booths on Jackson and Main Street filled with unique, one of a kind art items for
sale. This central Minnesota region has an exceptionally large and talented group of practicing artists. The
festival will represent most genres; jewelry, fiber, ceramics, paintings, photography, print making, glassblowing ,
and metal craft. There will also be a juried art show, with prizes. Any artist can enter, and again, the Schroeder
art students will have a separate tent.
RNERFRONT STAGE PERFORMANCES
The Riverfront stage will again be filled with performers from 10 AM to 9 PM. This year we are highlighting
local talent so most of our performers are home grown. The Bistodeau Family Band will be the headline act at 7
PM. They have performed on A Prairie Home Companion and have garnered national attention since they last
performed for the Alliance. This year, in addition to nine different performing groups, there will be Fiber
Fashion show at 1 PM; clothing all created by local artists. Other performers will be performing on the street
throughout the day.
THE COMMUNITY TENT
The Community tent activities have been expanded this year. In addition to the usual children's activities, we
have invited most of the regional art organizations to present their arts offerings -again talented and diverse;
modem dance, ballet, theater groups, photography clubs, boys and girls, mens and women's choral groups: fine
art instruction, etc. Other cultural and community groups will also be in attendance. Children's activities will
include story time, shadow puppet theater, flower potting, face painting and more to be determined.
LOCAL RESTAURANTS PARTICIPATING
Staying with our theme of local talent, we have asked the local eateries to supply the food and beverages rather
than bringing outside vendors in. They will be set up throughout the booth areas with tables and chairs -Ala a
Parisian street scene.
DISCOUNT SALES AT LOCAL BUSINESSES
We are bringing back the button sale from the 2007 festival. If one buys a button, the patron will receive a
discount sheet for many of the downtown businesses,
WE LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER WELL ATTENDED DOWNTOWN CELEBRATION.
Art Classes Arts in Harmony •ArtSoup Gallery & Gift Shop Performance Series Strings for Youth
