~~~
ljU6S Orono ParMvav
Elk River, NN iSjjO
January 26, 2004
David and Barbara Burandt
19118 Tyler Street i\1W
Elk River MN »330
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Burandt:
The Elk River Park and Recreation Commission discussed your request to continue to allow
your cows to be pastured on the Ciry's Royal Valley Park adjacent to your park, at their
January 14, 2004 meeting. While it is my understanding that you would like to install an
electnc fence to keep the animals out of the newly planted prairie, both electric and barbed
wire fences are prohibited within the zoning district in which the park is located.
The Comrission indicared that they would not want to see the animals return to the park
without some type of fence. The only type of fence which would be allowed would be a
woven wire fence and the Commission is not interested in expending money at this time to
install such a fence. They would, however, entertain a request if you were interested in
installing a woven wire fence to protect the prairie plantings.
To summarize, it appears that without a woven wire fence, your cows will not be allowed to
be pastured in Royal Valley Park from this point forward. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me at 763/635-1031.
Sincerely,
Michele McPherson
Director of Planning
cc: Park and Recreation Commission
Phone: 163.6351000
Pax: 763.6g5.:o90
S:\PLANNIlVG\I'srks\fLoyal Rilley\1 16 04 Itr Buranr{tt.doc
www.ci.elk-nve~r.nui.us
