Elk River Arena Addition
Elk River, Minnesota
w'k' -T.
Size: 42,880 - $5.3 million
The city of Elk River partnered with the Elk River Youth Hockey
Association and the Elk River School District to commission a design
to add a second sheet of ice to the city-owned existing arena, located
near Elk River High School. Two design features facing the designer
were: First, the original arena was apre-manufactured metal building
and the new arena was to be of precast insulated concrete panels.
Second, the new rink would have the first Olympic size (100'x 200') ice
sheet installed for a Minnesota high school hockey program.
A two-story connecting link was designed to connect the two arenas.
The link is designed to housetwo varsity locker rooms, fourYHA locker
rooms, storage, and the figure skaters warm up room. The locker
rooms on the ground floor are designed to serve both rinks. The upper
floor of the link acts as an observation deck into each of the arenas.
The design also expanded the lobby area, public restrooms, and the
concession areas. The new arena is a year-round facility. The new
arena has 2,000 seats, a concrete floor, and a suspended wal-king track
around the rink.
*The project was designed by Architect Chuck Freiberg while in prior
association.
.~- .
tr » ~~ .
's> ~ ~ „a
~ r - _
- -- a
'r'-
-~~
-_ - ~~- °.
<<
cs ~~
~'~- - ~ I~
~ ~~
,~ _ ,~. „~
.==~a.r~ _ -_.
_ _ d
-, ~, >,
-" - .-- - - . - ~, ~ ~. t .,
- y, #
1~ ~~~
--,_s
'~ .
C]
htg-architects.com
architects ~,.
- -- . - - _-
-s ~-i,
'~
~ '~
•
f -~~
~_
'I -- - -
,~, -
~I ,
