•
Monticello Skating Pavilion
Monticello, Minnesota
~~v
•
Design Only
In 2003 the Monticello Youth Hockey Association commissioned a
Concept Design to be presented to the city of Monticello, along with
a business plan for the construction of an ice arena/soccer dome
project. The project consisted of a single sheet ice arena connected
to an air-supported fabric domed structure covering a regulation size
soccerfield.
The 35,500 SF Arena contained one NHL size ice sheet with 650
permanent seats. Below the seats were two high school varsity and
4 youth hockey locker rooms. The lobby, concessions area, and public
rest rooms were sized to accommodate the occupants of the proposed
attached air-supported dome. There were also youth hockey offices
and a Weights and Conditioning room.
Although the City Planning Department and City Counsel supported
the MYHA plan, public opposition grew over the city's gift of the
property. The city reversed its offer and placed a cost on the land that
stopped the development. The school district later offered property
at-the new middle school, but required the school district's architect
to design the arena. The original property off Interstate 94 remains
undeveloped.
*The project was designed by Architect Chuck Freiberg while in prior
association.
htg-architects.com
architects
~yR~(1~
~'G'yP ~f{~. ;
'ry F,'
~F ~~
.fib, ~_ - t ~~ 4
~~~~,
~
,
~ ~
- t
^
~
i
± i
_ '
i
.
~
'
T~---
~ s
~
'~` ~
,
~
,
__
A
~; ~ ~ a ' ~ 4
,
_
I
`~_- ~ _. -
