<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER PARK & RECREATION <br />COMMISSION <br />HELD AT THE ELK RIVER CITY HALL <br />WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 1994 <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Chair Dave Anderson, Commissioners Olson and Rolfe Anderson <br />(7:35 p.m.) <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Commissioners Daleiden, Dana Anderson, O'Brien, Sf. Dennis, and <br />Lipetzky <br /> <br />Staff Present: <br /> <br />Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />Chris Kreger, Planning Commission Representative: Piotr Bednarski; <br />Grant Ernhart, and Ben Kremer <br /> <br />1. Call MeetinG To Order <br /> <br />Due to the lack of a quorum, it was the consensus of the members present to <br />have an informational meeting only. Past meeting minutes will be considered at <br />the next regular meeting. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />aDen Mike <br /> <br />Grant Ernhart stated that the Elk River Biathlon course in the third such range in <br />Minnesota. On June 25, 1994, there is a Summer Biathlon meet planned that will <br />involve about 100 cross country runner/shooter participants. Grant requested <br />that the bi-athletes be allowed to drive from Meadowvale School up the railroad <br />trail on Sunday afternoons for practice sessions. <br /> <br />After a discussion, it was decided by those present to recommend to the City <br />Council that they allow one or two vehicles to haul equipment to and from the <br />practice area for the summer as a probationary period to see if problems <br />develop. Staff will work out some sort of vehicle permit if the City Council <br />approves the recommendation. <br /> <br />5. DOG Sled Race - Dave Anderson <br /> <br />Chair Anderson has been contacted by the Elk River Chamber of Commerce <br />regarding a dog sled race in mid January. The request is for a four mile, six mile, <br />and ten mile race course that would start and finish in the same location, <br />preferably in Orono Park. Several routes were discussed and it was the consensus <br />of those present to support the proposal and work with the Chamber as the <br />program becomes more organized. <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />Discuss HikinG/BikinG Trail Concerns <br /> <br />Chair Anderson stated that it is important to have trails that are wide enough to <br />safely accommodate walkers, bikers, roller bladers, joggers, and roller skiers.
