<br /> <br />The Elk River Vision <br />A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional <br />service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To <br />Mayor and City Council <br />Item Number <br />8.3 <br />Agenda Section <br />General Business <br />Meeting Date <br />June 3, 2019 <br />Prepared by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Item Description <br />Resolution: Approve MN Laws, 2019, First Special <br />Session, Chapter 6, Article 6, Section 17 <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Adopt, by motion, the Resolution approving Minnesota Laws, 2019, First Special Session, Chapter 6, <br />Article 6, Section 17. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />Following legislative approval of our Local Options Sales Tax and the governor’s signature enacting the <br />special law, state statutes require the governing body approve the special law by resolution and file a <br />petition of approval with the resolution to the Office of the Secretary of State <br /> <br />The last steps to imposing the tax is the enacting of an ordinance and a written notice to the Department <br />of Revenue indicating our compliance with all of the said steps. <br /> <br />We are in the process of drafting the ordinance for the June 17, 2019, Regular Council Meeting, which <br />requires a 10-day notice. The Department of Revenue needs a 90-day written notice of intent to enact a <br />local sales tax.
