<br /> <br />Item 6.6.A. <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Director of Parks and Recreation <br /> <br />DATE: january 18, 2005 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation Department Staffing <br /> <br />Background <br />The Parks and Recreation Department is budgeted for a new 25 hour per week clerical <br />position in 2005. Currently the 20 hour per week of Recreation Coordinator is vacant. Staff <br />proposes to combine these two positions into one full-time Recreation Coordinator. This <br />position will be responsible for the scheduling and coordinating of recreational facilities, <br />assisting in the coordination of programming, and provide clerical support for the Director <br />of Parks and Recreation. The person in this position will be responsible for managing the <br />adult softball leagues, which will be under city management for the fIrst time, in 2005. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends creating a full-time Recreation Coordinator due to the growth of both <br />programming and administrative work. <br /> <br />Budget Implications <br />This staffIng change will be budget neutral in 2005. The full time wages will be equivalent to <br />the two part time jobs. By delaying the hire until the second quarter of the year, the cost of <br />benefIts will have no impact on the 2005 budget. <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Authorize the staffing change to create a full-time Recreation Coordinator position, <br /> <br />Attachment <br />Job Description: Recreation Coordinator <br />
