REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />To Item Number <br />Ci Council 6.1. <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Administration une 15, 2009 Cliff Anderson, Interim Fire Chief <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Consider Bids for Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Tim Simon, Finance Director <br />for Fire Department Reviewed by <br /> Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br />Action Requested <br />The Elk River Fire Department is requesting City Council approval of the bid received by Clarey's Safety <br />Equipment, Inc. for the purchase of new SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) equipment and <br />authorization to complete the purchase. <br />Background/Discussion <br />On March 14, 2008, the Elk River Fire Department applied for a FEMA grant through the Department <br />of Homeland Security and on December 26, 2008, the City of Elk River was awarded the grant through <br />the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to purchase and update our SCBA's. On May 2, 2009, the <br />City of Elk River advertised for bids for 23 units of new SCBA's with spare cylinders, 17 additional face <br />pieces and two complete Rapid Intervention Team Packs. The bids closed at 2:00 p.m. on May 19 and <br />one bid was received from Clarey's Safety Equipment Inc. totaling $119,999.00. On June 3, 2009 the Elk <br />River Fire Department SCBA Committee reviewed the bid and found it to be acceptable. <br />Financial Impact <br />In accordance with the FEMA grant the City of Elk River will be responsible for 10% of the total cost. <br />This cost is planned to be funded out of the Capital Outlay Reserve Fund. <br />Attachments <br />^ December 8, 2008, City Council minutes <br />Action Motion by Second by Vote <br />FOllow Up <br />C:\Documents and Settings\jjohnson\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK49\SCBA equipment.doc <br />
