Option 2 <br /> <br />Following the national census conducted every 10 years, state and local governments are <br />required to redraw their elective districts so representation among districts remains as equal <br />as possible as populations change over time. <br /> <br />Cities need the state redistricting plan to draw precinct and ward boundaries. Because of this <br />the City will not be able to officially redistrict its wards until the Legislature has redistricted. <br />However, the City will need to be ready to redistrict ward and precinct boundaries as soon as <br />the legislative plan is finalized. Therefore, it is best to begin the process now rather than <br />waiting until the last minute. <br /> <br />If the legislative redistricting plan is finalized after March 1, but before April 30, local <br />governments must have ward and precinct boundaries established by April 30. (See attached <br />redistricting timeline). <br /> <br />WARDS <br /> <br />A ward is an election district for the purpose of providing equal representation among <br />wards. <br /> <br /> <br />
