Open Mike

Ron Johnson and Dave Taus, Youth Hockey Association, were present to
discuss with the Commission some hockey needs as it relates to the
outdoor hockey rinks near the ice arena. Dave and Ron discussed the
need for additional fencing near the rinks at the south side where the
parking lot exists. A problem develops with pucks flying out of the
rink and damaging cars and endangering spectators. A rough estimate of
the cost for some type of additional fencing is in the neighborhood of
$2,500 for materials and labor. Dave and Ron indicated that the Youth
Hockey Association cannot finance this expenditure this season and that
no funds are available at the School District for such an expenditure.
Ron and Dave requested Commission consideration of this expenditure of
public funds for the benefit of the community and the Youth Hockey
Association.

Park Superintendent, Phil Hals, was directed by the Commission to
review the costs involved in installing the fende in this vicinity and
also to review other options for correcting the dangerous situation
that currently exists. It is anticipated that a recommendation from
Phil Hals will be provided to the Commission at its next meeting on
November 7, 1990.
