Elk River <br />Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />ERMU Commission <br />Mike Tietz - Technical Services Superintendent <br />MEETING DATE: <br />AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />May 14, 2024 <br />5.5 <br />SUBJECT: <br />Advanced Metering Infrastructure Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Staff will be providing updates on the progress of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) <br />meter exchange through the remainder of the project. This update is meant to provide the <br />Commission with the information to be able to address most questions or concerns that our <br />customers might have. Please also feel free to direct customers to staff with any questions. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Letters were mailed out on May 6 to the first 1,189 residential water customers, providing <br />them with several different ways to make an appointment for their water meter replacement. <br />An example letter has been provided for your reference. Our meter exchange contractor, <br />Allegiant Utility Services, started a soft rollout at various locations throughout our service area <br />the week of May 6 to work through any issues that may come up. We are also working closely <br />with Allegiant on these initial replacements to ensure that all installations are completed <br />efficiently and in accordance with our standards. <br />Communications staff has updated ERMU's website with a dedicated page that is an excellent <br />point of reference to address any questions that our customers might have regarding the AMI <br />project - AMI Ready. We plan on updating this webpage with pertinent information throughout <br />the project. <br />While we are able to move forward with the mass rollout of the water meters, we have made <br />the decision to delay the installation of the electric meters due to supply chain issues. We are <br />actively working with our distributor to develop a plan and commitment from the manufacturer <br />to provide an accurate shipment schedule for the electric meters. Allegiant has been <br />understanding of this postponement and has indicated that they have been experiencing <br />similar delays from other electric meter manufacturers on other projects they have. <br />ATTACHMENT: <br />• ERMU Water Meter Exchange Appointment Letter <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />212 <br />
