<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />March 1, 1937 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday March 1, 1937 at <br />8 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; Geo Cornelius, G.A. Bailey, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />L.G. Nelson came before the Council (by the request of the Council members) to discuss the light <br />rates in Elk River. Mr. Nelson was told that all the neighboring towns were having their rates <br />reduced and they thought it would be fair if his company would make a reduction in the rates. Mr. <br />Nelson said he was going to Chicago within a week or two and he would take the matter up with his <br />company. <br /> <br />A petition was presented for a street light on Thomas Street next to the railroad track signed by Leo <br />Henars, Raymond Legg, Mrs. Dauner, Mr. Haenze, Chas Ressler, Ray Ryding, Ernest Larose, Walter <br />Malmstrom. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to table this matter <br />until a later meeting. <br /> <br />Some of the people in Elk River that are building new homes are installing one inch water pipes <br />instead of three fourth inch pipes. The cost of the one inch meter is about $25.00 compared to <br />10.50 for the three fourth in meter. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius <br />that hereafter all people putting in one inch meters would have to pay the difference between the <br />three fourths and one in meter. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Wm Greupner, Clerk reported that Mr. Mitten welfare director has spoken to him about the relief <br />clients working of their relief and wished the council would find some work for them to do. A <br />motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by G.A. Bailey to have the Council room and Library <br />redecorated and have the work done by relief workers. Wm Patenaude trustee to oversee this <br />project. <br /> <br />Chas Nelson came before the council stating that his job as night Marshall required a car and the <br />five dollar car allowance he receives now is not enough for expenses as his old car is worn out and <br />he needs a news one. Motion made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to raise the Marshalls <br />car allowance from $5.00 to $25.00 a month. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to accept the amendment to <br />ordinance No. 31. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Ordinance No. 35 <br />An ordinance amending ordinance No. 31 fixing the license fee for the sale of non-intoxicating malt <br />liquor in the Village of Elk River, Sherburne County, Minn. <br />The Village Council of the Village of Elk River, Sherburne County, Minnesota do ordain as follows: <br /> <br />
